Project Appleseed™ isn’t a gun club or a militia, nor is it a historical society. Instead, we are a non-partisan group of men and women (known as the Revolutionary War Veterans Association) who are committed to upholding the values and principles of America’s founding fathers. We use rifle marksmanship instruction as a gateway to help bring our nation’s history to life and to show that many of the values that our forefathers relied on to win our independence are still very much in demand today.
Through clinics and events, we teach rifle marksmanship and early American heritage to introduce individuals of all skill levels to the knowledge that was so crucial to the success of our nation’s founders. Aside from the fun and camaraderie of these events, the designed takeaway is a renewed sense of civic responsibility that each attendee can then implement in his or her own community. If we can reconnect enough people with the selfless civic virtue of our forefathers, we as a nation will all be better off.
Our goal is to create a nation of Riflemen. We’d love for you to join us.
Match Dates for 2017 are April 29 & 30 and Sept. 9th &10th
If you’re already a rifle shooter, you may not think you need this instruction, but I challenge you to think again. There’s a big difference between slow firing from the bench with sandbags and a spotting scope, and firing from field positions, standing, sitting or kneeling, and prone. It’s a great program for the beginning shooter, but even experienced shooters will pick up tips, tricks, and different ways of thinking that can improve their marksmanship.
The cost is only $40 for one day or $60 for two days, with substantial discounts available to those under 18, law enforcement, active military and disabled shooters.
You’ll learn the secrets to being a Rifleman, shooting from standing, sitting, and prone positions. You’ll learn the secrets to getting and keeping natural point of aim, controlling your breathing, adjusting your sights or scope to make good hits at different distances, and the use of the rifle sling as a shooting aid, not just a carrying strap. Don’t have a sling, a scope, or a $2,000 wonder rifle? Appleseed is a “run what you brung” type of event; you don’t have to have the “right” equipment; bring a rifle, ammo, and a teachable attitude, if that’s all you have.
We’ll do all our shooting on Saturday, and some on Sunday, at a distance of 25 meters at reduced-size targets. “Why would I want to shoot at that short a distance?”, you might ask. The answer is less walking and more shooting. We’ll teach you to hit a one inch square, consistently, at 25 meters. If you can do that, you will have the necessary skills to hit a 4 inch target at 100, an 8 inch target at 200, or a 12 inch target at 300 meters. The only additional thing you’ll need to master is moving your sights for those other distances, and we will teach that as well.
Because of the 25 meter distance for much of the shooting, a .22 long rifle works just fine for most of the shooting, and it’s less expensive to shoot; we’ll go through 300 to 400 rounds over two days. You can bring a .22 and a centerfire rifle, then when we go to longer distances on Sunday, use the centerfire for those targets.
